Did You Know?
The CDC recently reported that about opioid abuse tragically took nearly 42,000 lives as of 2016 alone. The ADA as further response has also implemented steps through modern, relevant education available to all dentists who desire it, something we at Lincoln Park Smiles stand in commitment with to help end this crisis. Because 40% of deaths came from prescription pain relievers, it’s imperative that we as a dental community step in to find alternatives to narcotic pain medication, screen for signs and proclivities towards misuse of prescription medication, and provide compassionate support and treatment to our patients at risk. There is a way to stop opioid abuse and spreading the word for better practices will help to bring change.
A Word to the Wise
Some agencies offer numerous resources and expert education to enact such change. This may include everything from partnering with the DEA to hosting online industry courses to gathering resources and motivating patients to seek treatment. And since 2012, the ADA has made its free courses available to dentists. We at Lincoln Park are committed to exploring these resources and solutions to help our patients in whatever way we can.
